Task number one: start a blog. You’d think it would be pretty straightforward, right? Not so much.
This semester, I’m taking a class called The Branding of Me in the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Gary Kayye developed the course to help students develop our own personal brand based on who we are, what we care about, and our professional ambitions. Part of our semester-long branding project is blogging twice a week while promoting this blog over social media.
We’re supposed to write about things we care about, things that make us who we are. As it turns out, that’s much more difficult than I originally thought (since you can only post so many blogs about chocolate and naps).
See, I’m interested in lots of different things. People, travel, college sports, human rights issues, YoPo, fashion, public relations, politics, Disney movies, branding strategies, geopolitical interactions, media trends, southern writers, ice cream, poetry, journalism. That last sentence is known as “word vomit,” and it’s why I’m having a bit of trouble finding a specific focus for this blog.
Regardless, it’ll be a little bit professional, a little bit personal and somewhat entertaining (depending on whether you’re laughing with me or at me). Per usual, I have no idea yet. But somehow, for 21 years, I’ve managed to get myself into some pretty amazing things without knowing precisely what I’m doing.
I’m convinced that nobody actually has their life figured out until they’re at least 30 anyways. Then again, I used to think I’d be grown up at 21.
So, thanks for reading and get prepared to follow the adventures of this Tar Heel through my last semester in the Southern Part of Heaven!
**PSA: I will most definitely be overloading your social media. I’d like to think I won’t be that boring, but ya never know.
